Recording Our Bere Island Stories – Ann Power
Ann Power (nee Sullivan) talks to Barry Sullivan and gives us a fascinating account of her life. Ann was born on Bere Island in the mid 1930s, she is married to Davy Power and they live in Droum Castletownbere.
Ann gives us a great account of growing up on Bere Island during the war years and of Bere Islanders relationship with the military, both British and Irish. We hear of her interesting family history and their involvement in the Bere Island Post Office and their bakery from which they supplied the British Navy with bread during World War One. She speaks also of her great grand uncle, John H, who went to Boston in 1846 and became a Banker and a Senator.
The Bere Island Oral History project came about as a result of the Heritage Keepers Programme in partnership with the Burren Beo Trust and The Heritage Council.
