Welcome… Fáilte… to our Bere Island community archive in County Cork

Bere Island, lays at the entrance of Bantry Bay and is steeped in history, from Viking incursions to the construction of Napoleonic Martello Towers, the presence of British and US naval forces during World War One, and its role as of one of Ireland’s three Treaty Ports.  Explore our island heritage, hear islanders’ stories, discover local history collections, unique articles, photographs, and documents on Bere Island’s social and military heritage.

We are working together to record and make accessible the island’s rich cultural, archaeological and built heritage.  We invite you to contribute your information, stories and photographs. Find out more about us or get in touch.
